Personalized Decorative Cutting Boards

This is one of those last minute holiday gifts that only requires a bit of artistic talent. Pick up an inexpensive plain wood cutting board in the Kitchen Department of almost any discount or dollar-based store. By using whatever means you feel most comfortable with, you can turn it into a personalized work of art they will hang in their kitchen with pride. This is the perfect project for that woodburning set you’ve got stored away. And if you don’t have one, paint works, too. Create a design, a message, or the person’s name – or all three! Be sure to use a sealer to preserve your artwork.

Unique Family Name/Address Placard For Front Porch

Turn almost any scrap of wood into a creative design element for a friend’s home. This is another project where a woodburning tool can come in handy. You can use the font of your choice to include the Family’s name, address, and any other designs you feel are appropriate. Include a couple of eye-hooks on top for easy hanging and you have a one-of-a-kind eye-catcher for the front porch.

Customized Serving Tray or Game Board

With the trend in “upcycling” these days, this project is a natural. Many building materials outlets have a number of used items for sale at great prices. Locate a cabinet door with trim and you have the basis for this easy-to-do project. Begin by removing any hardware such as hinges or handles. Next, sand the piece down to remove any unwanted finishes or paint. From there you can either decorate it as a serving tray, or you can paint a game board for checkers, chess, or other board game that appeals to the “giftee”.

Customized Wooden Trivets

This is last-minute gifting genius that even the little ones can pull off. Simply gather some scrap pieces of wood and cut into squares of the same size. From here they can be either painted or decorated with a woodburning kit.

Personalized Christmas Baskets

The beauty of this idea is that almost anything can be included in the basket, depending on the recipient. An inexpensive basket from either a discount store or dollar-based retailer will get you started. It can be woven or plastic, as long as it can hold the goodies! Even a shower-caddy could work for this project. You can include candles, snacky treats, bath bombs, small bottles of wine or spirits, gourmet coffees or teas – the choices are only limited by your imagination – and the size of your basket, of course!

Certificate For a Movie or Dinner

Some people think these certificates are kind of questionable as gifts, but the truth of the matter is, if a person has a free movie or meal at their disposal, they are much more likely to cut loose and head out for the evening than they may otherwise be. You are not only giving them food and entertainment; you’re giving them FREEDOM – at least for the evening. The certificates can be from their favorite restaurant or theater,(or both), your choice. As a nice touch, you can print out the confirmation info and place it in a holiday card.

Down-Home DIY Holiday Cookie or Brownie Mix

If you are gifting a fellow “do-it-yourselfer”, this will be even more appreciated. Put together your favorite recipe ingredients and seal them in a mason jar (along with baking instructions, of course!). You can decorate the jar any way you want, from a simple label to a brightly-colored bow around the lid. You can combine this with some inexpensive holiday-decorated oven mitts as “a package deal”!

Hickory Farms Gift Sets

In addition to being the height of convenience, these sets come in a wide variety of sizes and price ranges, and all include those tasty snacks we love at the holidays. They’re even boxed up and ready to hand out. Chances are Hickory Farms have a holiday location set up at your local mall.

Christmas Card Insert

This one is almost a no-brainer, but if you’re looking for something to include in a Christmas card, may we recommend Lottery Tickets? They’re inexpensive and who knows what prizes may await the lucky recipient? Best of all? NO WRAPPING!!

Movie Night “Picnic” Basket

Does the recipient love movies? Grab a cheap basket from the discount or dollar store and fill it with an inexpensive movie, microwave popcorn, and some movie-type candies. If it’s a romantic movie (or even a Rom-Com), you may also consider a bottle of wine and one of those inexpensive blankets from the local drug store or discount store. They can snuggle up, snack, and be entertained!

Individualized Coffee Mugs

Believe it or not, coffee mugs are great gifts and ones that are sure to be used! They are relatively inexpensive, they come in a variety of sizes and styles, and you can even find them with appropriate (or NOT) messages on them! Every time your recipient goes for the java, they’ll think of you!

Wine Bottle Cork Crafts

This one may take a little more time and effort, but the final result will be eye-popping! Online tutorials abound on how to take those old corks from wine bottles and transform them into any number of items, like coasters, message boards, wall art, and even birdhouses. It’s a unique medium to use for gifts, but your recipients will be impressed and delighted.

Tins For Each Taste

Especially great for families, those giant tins of gourmet flavored popcorns are perfect for family movie nights. Of course, if popcorn has no appeal, there are also sampler tins out there for nuts and chocolates, as well.

Personalized Kitchen Tools

If you have any talent with a woodburning tool, this could be the way for you to go. Start by picking up some simple and inexpensive wooden kitchen utensils from a discount store. Using a woodburning tool, you can customize them with names, sayings, or just designs. That way, you’ll always be a presence in their kitchen.

Floral Gifts They’ll Treasure

A trip to your local florist can yield some unique and beautiful gifts at a reasonable price. A seasonal centerpiece for the holiday table, a garland for the mantle, or even a welcoming wreath for the front door; you can find a wide selection of holiday greenery to suit your recipient.

Coming up with some great ideas for last-minute holiday gifts doesn’t have to mean going “bargain basement”. These gift suggestions will only take a minimum amount of your time and yet will have a maximum effect on your recipients.
