Yes,You CAN Go Skiing in Missouri
Now, let’s first talk about setting realistic expectations if you’re thinking of visiting either of these ski resorts in Missouri. Obviously, we’re not talking resorts like you’ll find at Steamboat Springs, Sugarbush, or Aspen. We’re talking about skiing in a floodplain or in wheatfield country. However, surprisingly enough, there is still a lot of outdoor winter fun to be had skiing in Missouri, and you can do it on a budget. If you’re looking for a fun outing with the family, sharing some laughs with friends, or just getting tuned up for the coming ski season at some larger resorts, Missouri can accommodate your needs.
Okay – onto the two ski resorts in Missouri – one is in the St. Louis suburbs and the other is just north of Kansas City. They are run by the same company and, despite obvious challenges, have managed to find ways to provide winter fun with skiing, snowboarding, and tubing, along with some nice, basic amenities to complete the experience.

Located just a little over 40 miles north of Kansas City, in Weston, Missouri, this winter fun zone features a variety of ski trails with a 300-foot overall vertical drop. With over 60 snowmaking machines pumping 3,000 gallons of water per minute, they can make enough snow to cover the entire skiing area to a usable depth in just 72 hours.
Snow Creek features 12 groomed trails for skiers of all skill levels. Thirty percent of them are designed for beginners, sixty percent are set up for intermediate skiers, and the experts get the remaining ten percent to enjoys. To get you up the hill there are 5 lifts of various types. There are two triple chairlifts, one double chairlift, one conveyor carpet type lift, and a rope tow.
In addition to the ski areas, there are also accommodations which snowboarders will love, including 2 separate terrain parks with challenges for all levels.
If you enjoy tubing, Snow Creek has you covered. They have 5 runs of 700 feet each, and they have over 300 tubes for rent. Hang on tight and enjoy the ride!
When you’re ready for a rest and warm-up, Snow Creek has a 10,000 square foot ski lodge with a cafeteria, pizzeria, bar, ski school, and a National Ski Patrol first aid facility. The rental facility has 1200 pairs of skis and 400 snowboards for rent to make sure you’re properly equipped for the slopes.

Featuring 65 skiable acres, Hidden Valley is Missouri’s largest winter resort, and yet it’s surprisingly accessible in Wildwood, Missouri, a suburb just 29 miles west of St. Louis. Although it’s very weather-dependent, the skiing season here generally runs from mid-December through mid-March. To keep the trails in proper shape, they have 110 fan guns, capable of delivering in excess of 6600 gallons of water per minute for snowmaking. This gives them the capability of covering the entire skiable acreage in just 48 hours.
Hidden Valley offers 17 trails of varying difficulty, covering a 320-foot vertical elevation. There are 9 lifts available, including 5 chairlifts, 3 surface carpet lifts, and a rope tow. In addition to the ski runs, snowboarders will find two separate terrain parks where they can hone their skills. The dedicated tubing area offers users an incredible 16 runs of approximately 1,000 feet each.
If you have beginners in your group or just skiers who want to improve their abilities, the onsite Snowsports Academy offers lessons for all skill levels and all ages. Also on site is Hidden Valley’s ski lodge, featuring a cafeteria, bar, retail outlets, plenty of comfortable seating, and a fireplace. The National Ski Patrol is also located in the lodge.
Slopeside Equipment Rental is ready to accommodate skiers of all levels with 1800 pairs of skis as well a wide assortment of snowboards.
